Other Paths, Inc. (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website https://otherpaths.org (the “Site”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it. By using the Site or registering for one of our Service Projects, you agree to the practices described here.
Who we are
Our website address is https://otherpaths.org. Other Paths is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; questions about this policy can be sent to us through the Contact page on our Site.
Information we collect
We do not allow public comments on this Site, so we do not collect comment-form data, comment IP/browser data, or Gravatar data.
We do collect the following, depending on how you interact with us:
- General site usage data: basic technical information (such as browser type and IP address) generated automatically by visiting the Site.
- Service Project registration data: when you sign up as an attendee or volunteer for a Service Project, we collect information such as your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, emergency contact details, waiver/consent acknowledgments, and any other information the registration form requests.
- Payment data: when you make a payment (e.g., a registration fee or donation) through the Site, our payment processor collects and processes the payment details (such as card number and billing address) needed to complete the transaction. We do not store full payment card numbers on our own servers.
- Volunteer-specific data: for volunteers, we may additionally collect availability, skills or certifications relevant to a project, and background-check information where required for a given Service Project.
Media
If you upload images to the Site, avoid uploading images that include embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the Site can potentially download and extract location data from images posted on the Site.
Cookies
Because we do not allow comments, we do not set comment-related cookies.
If the Site includes a login area (for staff, board members, or Service Project coordinators), visiting the login page sets a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies; this cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, we set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days (or two weeks if you select “Remember Me”), and screen-option cookies last one year. Logging out removes your login cookies.
We may also use cookies from our registration and payment providers to keep your Service Project registration or checkout session active while you complete a form.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages on this Site may include embedded content (for example, videos, images, or articles from other sites). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content — including tracking your activity if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
We share personal data only as needed to operate the Site and run our Service Projects:
- Payment processors: registration fees and donations are processed by a third-party payment processor. That processor receives the payment information necessary to complete your transaction and handles it under its own privacy policy.
- Service Project partners and hosts: if a Service Project is run jointly with a partner organization or host site, we may share attendee or volunteer names and relevant contact/safety information with that partner solely for coordinating the project.
- Password resets: if you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email.
- We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
How long we retain your data
- Service Project registration and volunteer records (including payment confirmations, but not full card numbers) are retained for as long as needed to administer current and future projects, meet legal/tax/accounting obligations, and maintain safety records, after which they are securely deleted or anonymized.
- If our Site allows user accounts, registered users’ profile information is stored until the account is deleted. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Site administrators can also view and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have registered for a Service Project, volunteered with us, or otherwise provided personal data through the Site, you can request an exported copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase personal data we hold about you, except data we are legally required to retain for administrative, legal, tax, or safety purposes (such as certain volunteer background-check or liability-waiver records).
Where your data is sent
Data collected through the Site — including Service Project registrations and payments — may be processed and stored by trusted third-party service providers (such as our payment processor and registration/email tools) located in the United States. We do not use automated comment-screening services since comments are disabled on this Site.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements, including as we roll out payment collection and Service Project registration features. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated effective date.mated spam detection service.
